About Sarah Skapa

Hello! I'm Sarah, the maker at Sarah Skapa. Skapa means “create” in Swedish, and I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. My interests and mediums may have changed over the years but my drive to make the world a little more colorful hasn’t changed a bit. I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, and pretty much any other outdoor activity. A lot of the patterns and color combinations I use are pulled straight from something I saw when out exploring.

I aim to make durable, functional goods to make your day a little brighter.

My soy candles have exactly what you want, without any unnecessary junk. They have no dyes, all phthalate-free fragrances, metal free wicks and come in reusable containers with removable labels.

All my leather goods are made entirely by hand. From selecting and cutting the leather, to stitching and riveting, each piece is produce using only manual tools and my hands. The saddle stitching on the items I make is extremely sturdy and has two separate threads running through for incredible durability.

Ice-dyed textiles are a fun way to add color to your day! Each item takes over 24 hours to produce. Items are soaked in a natural dye fixative, then “crumpled” by hand and covered in ice with powdered dye added last to the top of the ice. As the ice melts and draws the dye through the fabric the colors swirl and pool creating gorgeous patterns in the fabric. No two pieces are exactly alike, which is part of the fun! Dyes are then left for a full day to set in the fabric before going through an extensive rinsing and washing process to remove any leftover dye particles. Each item comes to you pre-washed and preshrunk, although I do recommend washing normally before wear as an extra measure against any dye transfer.
